Applied Geological Research Centre of Iran that is located in the Karaj is affiliated to the Geological Survey of Iran (GSI) and carries out research projects of the GSI. In this respect, NanoBioEarth Department, as an important Scientific-Research section, has started its activities since 2009 aiming at recognizing new fields of nanotechnology and biotechnology in the geosciences especially in the exploitation and mineral processing of precious minerals.
The most applied aspect of nanotechnology is processing and recovery of valuable minerals from ores that is not applicable making use of common methods. |
This is a high efficiency and low cost method that decrease environmental pollutions of waste waters and sewages. This technology is useful for cleaning soil and water around the mines that have been contaminated by the heavy metals and other environmental pollutants.
Today, in low grade mines, minerals are concentrated making use of some bacteria species through biotechnology that provide raw material to the processing plants.
