Mineral resources have an infrastructure role in the country's economic development. In today's world, gold as a wealth resource and with special application in industry and monetary issue cover in the some of the countries enjoys high strategic importance. The difference of gold with the other elements is due to its historical relationship with money. Therefore during the recent years, enormous amount of money has been allocated for gold exploration.
The information of gold deposits in our country has been scattered and because of not possessing a firm database system, collecting, maintaining and processing of the data haven't been precisely carried out. Therefore gold database project was subjectively defined in the National Geosciences Database. The objective of this project is to collect gold information (exploration, exploitation, and etc) and to organize this information in the form of database. This information will be finally submitted in Internet, Intranet, map, report and CD.
Standard Information form for the ore deposits and mineral traces was designed based on National Spatial Data Infrastructure of the USA (NSDI) and the BHP Mineral National Geochemical Database.
Subsequently the required information as well as the information centres was recognized and the existing information collected considering the priorities and huge bulk of available information at the Geological Survey of Iran. In continuation, existing information in the Ministry of Industries and Mines and Tehran Universities was collected as well.
It is to be noted that collecting information is a continuous trend based on multilateral research, and it is intended that the information of the provinces centres as well as private companies to be collected in a very near future.
Desirable presentation of information requires precise classification and protection. For this purpose, the collected information was classified as: a) mine, b) ore deposit, c) ore indices, d) anomaly (explanations of each are described as follows). Afterwards their processing and coding were done. More than 600 reports were studied. Result of these studies is: introduction of 2 mines (Muteh gold mine and Sarcheshmeh copper and gold mine), 36 ore deposits, 79 ore indices and 288 anomalies.
Undoubtedly this activity is a start for a giant work which will be gradually completed by the researchers and scientists of our country.
Mine: Economic concentration of minerals, which have formerly exploited, or at present are being exploited for sale.
Ore deposit: Economic concentration of minerals, which is necessarily economic but still, has not been exploited.
Mineral indices: Geologic properties, which indicate a mineral deposit in a region.
Mineral anomaly: Geologic and exploration studies in an anomalous region which mineral index is less there but it can be introduced as a mineral index in future.
